Job Description
Shuttle mechanical optimization
Problem: Currently most shuttles are designed with components sized to gut feeling. In order to optimize the components and make sure they are not over or under designed a lifetime analysis of the components should be done.
Main issues: We don't know how close we are to part mechanical lifetime limits. There could be significant cost saving opportunities, weight saving opportunities, and energy consumption reduction opportunities.
Solution idea: Develop a methodology for doing life expectation calculations internally, use the load cycles and FEA results to estimate expected duration of components and compare to customer/market/warranty expectations
Short description: Determine the best cycle counting method, SN/Wohler curves, and lifetimes.
Qualifications
Required competences:
-FEA experience (preferably in NX)
-Master Engineering
-Fatigue life / duty cycle experience
-Materials experience
