Job Description

The System Engineer is responsible for delivering project solutions based on existing engineering standards. This role involves applying standardized solutions to meet project specifications, ensuring that the design and implementation align with predefined guidelines. In addition, the System Engineer is responsible for creating and modifying EPLAN diagrams, particularly for as-built documentation, to accurately reflect the final installation. The focus is on the application of standardized solutions, while any deviations or complex problems are handled in collaboration with other engineering functions.

QSHE & Compliance

  • Compliance with Standards and Regulations:
    • Ensure all designs, implementations, and project solutions comply with relevant local laws, industry regulations, and internal company standards, including health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Maintain high-quality engineering practices by following established quality control procedures, ensuring that the solutions delivered meet both technical specifications and client requirements.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Prioritize health and safety during the design and implementation of systems, ensuring that safety protocols are followed throughout the project lifecycle, from design to installation.
  • Environmental Impact:
    • Assess and minimize the environmental impact of systems designed and implemented, ensuring adherence to sustainable practices and environmental regulations.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Application of Standardized Solutions:
    • Apply existing engineering standards to provide project solutions that meet client and project specifications, ensuring alignment with predefined technical guidelines.
  • Analyse project requirements to resolve conflicts
  • Concept Layout Creation:
    • Create concept layouts for electrical systems, providing a basis for electrical draftsmen to develop the full design. Ensure that these layouts are clear and detailed to support the drafting process.
  • Refinement of Drafted Designs:
    • Review and refine the electrical designs created by electrical draftsmen in EPLAN, making necessary adjustments to the details and ensuring the design meets project requirements and standards.
  • Technical Design & Documentation:
    • Develop safety layouts, detailed technical designs, including system specifications and wiring instructions, and ensure all documentation reflects the actual project implementation.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
    • Work closely with other engineering functions (e.g., project engineers, Controls Hardware Engineers, safety teams) to ensure that all project requirements are met, including safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Finance
    • Carefully check quotes and available budget and escalate in case project budget is insufficient.
  • System Integration:
    • Oversee the integration of systems within the broader project context, ensuring all subsystems work together seamlessly and meet project goals.
  • Project Planning and Monitoring:
    • Coordinate and monitor project progress, making adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines and budget constraints. Ensure that project milestones are met and any deviations are addressed. Escalate if milestones cannot be met
  • On-Site Presence for IO Testing and Safety Validations:
    • Provide on-site presence for IO testing, safety validations, and to support electrical installers during the installation phase. Ensure systems are functioning correctly, meet safety standards, and address any technical issues that arise during installation.

Verification & approval

  • Design Verification:
    • Verify that all system designs, including concept layouts and final electrical diagrams, meet project specifications and standards before final approval.
  • Approval of Technical Documentation:
    • Ensure that all technical documentation, including wiring diagrams and system specifications, is thoroughly reviewed and approved by relevant stakeholders before proceeding with installation.
  • Compliance with Regulatory Requirements:
    • Confirm that all designs and implementations comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and safety guidelines before installation and commissioning.
  • Approval of System Integration:
    • Verify that all system integrations are correctly implemented, ensuring that all subsystems work as intended and meet the project goals before the system goes live.
  • Budget Responsibility:
    • Ensure that all design and implementation activities are aligned with the project’s budget. Monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle and report any deviations to management. Approve expenditures related to system design and integration within the project budget.

Administration & other

  • Maintain and organize all project-related documentation, ensuring it is up to date and readily accessible. This includes design documents, test reports, and compliance certifications.
  • SAP Project Management:
    • Use the SAP system to manage and track project progress, from design phase through to delivery, ensuring all project data is accurately recorded and updated.
  • Supplier and Stakeholder Communication:
    • Coordinate communication with suppliers, contractors, and other external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of components and resolve any issues related to project execution.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide regular progress updates to project managers and other relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency in project timelines, costs, and status.
  • Documentation of Project Changes:
    • Ensure any changes in the project scope, design, or budget are properly documented, with necessary approvals obtained from relevant stakeholders.

Training & development

  • Continuous Skill Development:
    • Stay updated with the latest technologies, industry standards, and best practices in system engineering. Participate in relevant training programs to enhance technical expertise and keep skills current.
  • Knowledge Sharing:
    • Actively share knowledge and insights with colleagues, particularly with junior engineers, to promote learning and development within the team.
  • Certificates:
    • Ensure the required certificates and test reports are available and according to specifications (e.g. insulation test, UL certification,..)
  • On-the-Job Training:
    • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to electrical draftsmen and other team members involved in the system design and implementation processes.
