Job Description

The A-Y accountant is responsible for accurate and punctual accounting and financial reporting of the BU’s concerned in-line with company’s standards and local legislation.

Financial administration & Control

  • Ensures a reliable and punctual financial Record-To-Report (R-to-R) process, in accordance with the company’s standards and local legislation.
  • Gives constructive input on the R-to-R process and makes suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in projects to increase efficiency.
  • Ensures and executes a reliable and punctual financial administration including proper filing, which includes all accounting responsibilities: general ledger, fixed assets, provisions, deferrals, VAT, ICO reconciliations, monitoring cash levels, periodical closing.
  • Solves any irregularities and deviations independently, investigates and intervenes when necessary and takes appropriate and punctual actions, seeking the assistance of higher management when needed.
  • Aligns general ledger accounting practices to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • All the above for a Belgian, German and/or French group entity.

Reporting

  • Produces periodical financial reports and information (monthly, quarterly, yearly and on request) in accordance with the company’s standards and local legislation, to keep management informed.
  • Produces the final balance sheet and profit-and-loss account and analyses.
  • Produces the statutory accounts and tax return for the external accountants and auditors and assists with financial and fiscal audits.
  • Conducts statutory and statistics reporting in compliance with the company’s standards and legal legislation.

Contacts

  • Collects information from internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial information and to assure correct project provisioning.
  • Responds adequately to queries from the company regarding financials.
  • Proactively informs the Financial and Business Controller on relevant trends and developments.
  • Closely liaises with different teams within the company: line management, accounts receivable, treasury, controllers, external accountants, and auditors

Additional activities

  • Carries out any other general work-related tasks that are necessary and in the company’s interest.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • An accounting degree (bachelor’s degree in business management (accountancy & tax), master's degree in commercial sciences, economics or finance).
  • Proven experience in a similar accounting role (5-10 years experience) and strong technical accounting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch & English, French or German are a plus.
  • Experience with SAP accounting software is a must and a good command of MS Office, especially Excel, to facilitate data analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic and rapidly changing work environment.
